Beryllium Field/Mobile Accreditation Program

The Beryllium Field/Mobile Accreditation Program (Be Field/Mobile) is intended for the accreditation of individual field operations and mobile laboratories that analyze beryllium samples.
Please review Policy Module 3 for more information before applying for AIHA LAP Accreditation Programs.
Why Participate in Beryllium Field/Mobile?
Under Be Field/Mobile, each field operation or mobile laboratory analyzing beryllium can attain its own accreditation (and be issued an AIHA LAP certificate and Lab ID number) so long as it meets the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements, plus additional AIHA LAP criteria under Module 2A, Module 2G, and Module 6. The analyte-specific program is designed so that multiple field/mobile operations analyzing beryllium samples can rely on a fixed site laboratory’s quality management system to support their accreditation. When a field operation/mobile laboratory is accredited by AIHA LAP, it becomes part of an elite group of laboratories achieving and maintaining a high level of professional performance.
Who Should Participate in the Program?
Any fixed site laboratory or organization that analyzes beryllium samples in field operations and/or at mobile laboratories can seek accreditation for those field/mobile units if those units can meet Module 2G requirements. Since the results of these analyses are used to determine the magnitude or presence of beryllium exposure, it is vital that the field/mobile units analyzing these beryllium samples demonstrate proficiency in producing high-quality data which important health decisions will be based.
Can a Laboratory Accredited for Be under IHLAP Participate?
Yes. Even if an industrial hygiene laboratory is accredited for beryllium (has approved methods for beryllium analysis on its scope and it is participating in BePAT), the laboratory can have any field operations and/or mobile sites fully accredited and identified as a separate accredited entity demonstrating that they each individually comply with all accreditation requirements under Module 2G.
